Do I need a visa for South Africa?

Czech citizens do not need a visa or travel authorisation to enter South Africa for tourism for stays of up to 90 days per visit. This short‑stay permission does not permit paid work or study.

Which documents do I need?

You must travel on a passport. National identity cards, driving licences and temporary passports are not accepted for entry on this route. If you plan to drive in South Africa you will also need an international driving permit in addition to your Czech licence.

Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the date of entry and contain at least two blank pages side‑by‑side for entry and exit stamps.

Are vaccinations required for South Africa?

No vaccination is mandatory for Czech tourists as a general rule. Immigration officers will check for a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a yellow‑fever area and entry can be refused without it.

Vaccinations recommended for visitors include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis). If you plan to visit malaria areas such as Kruger National Park, antimalarial medication and repellents are advised.

How long can I stay, and can I extend it?

One entry permits a stay of up to 90 days. If you wish to extend that stay you must follow the extension process set out by South African immigration authorities and lodge any request in advance; overstaying can lead to being declared an undesirable person and a ban on future visits for one to five years.

Border officers may ask to see proof of sufficient funds, a return or onward flight and proof of accommodation, so carry documents showing these details.

Can children travel on this route?

If a child travels with both or one parent they must hold their own valid passport. When a minor travels unaccompanied or with someone other than a parent you must present a parental consent letter, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, copies of the parents’ passports or identity documents, contact details and the name and documents of the person who will take custody in South Africa.

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is recommended to cover medical and other travel-related costs, but it is not a condition of entry to South Africa.

Frequently asked questions

How long must my passport be valid and how many blank pages do I need?

Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of entry and contain at least two blank pages side-by-side for entry and exit stamps.

Is there an arrival form or registration I must complete?

An online arrival registration (Online Traveller Declaration Form) is required and is completed through the official entry‑registration portal linked from this page.

What documents might border officers ask to see?

You may be asked at the border to show proof of sufficient funds, a return (or onward) flight and proof of hotel booking, so carry documents that show these details.

Are any vaccines or malaria precautions suggested?

Vaccinations recommended for visitors include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis). If you plan to visit malaria areas such as Kruger National Park, antimalarial medication plus repellents is advised.

Do I have to buy travel insurance before I travel?

Travel insurance is recommended to cover medical costs, but it is not a condition of entry to South Africa.

What documents do minors need to enter South Africa?

If a child travels with both or one parent they need their own valid passport. If a minor travels unaccompanied or with someone other than a parent, bring a parent(s)’ consent, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, copies of parents’ identity documents or passports, contact details and the guardian’s information in South Africa.

What happens if my passport is damaged or nearly full?

Border officers may refuse boarding or entry if your passport is damaged, lacks the required validity or does not have the blank pages for stamps. Travel on a temporary passport is not accepted for this route.

Can I drive in South Africa on my Czech driving licence?

If you plan to drive in South Africa, an international driving permit is required in addition to your Czech driving licence.

What if I overstay or need to extend my stay?

If you remain in South Africa beyond the permitted stay you may be declared an undesirable person and barred from entry for one to five years. Instructions about extending the 90‑day stay are given by immigration authorities and an extension request must be lodged in advance.

Should I contact the South African embassy in Prague?

The South African embassy or consulate in Czechia provides consular help and information; it is not the place to submit the online traveller declaration but can assist with consular matters.

Do I have to exchange money or prove a set amount at the border?

There is no requirement to exchange currency at the border and border officials do not require proof of a specific amount of funds at crossings, although you may be asked for evidence of sufficient funds during immigration checks.

Where do I complete the required arrival registration?

The official entry‑registration portal is used to complete the Online Traveller Declaration Form; use that portal for the required arrival registration rather than other websites.

Do I need a yellow fever certificate?

If you are coming from or transiting through a yellow‑fever area, carry an International Certificate of Vaccination for yellow fever; otherwise no general vaccination certificate is routinely required for Czech tourists.

Is there a required form or age limit for parental consent for minors?

A parental consent form for a minor should not be older than six months where practical; sample consent forms are available from general government guidance referenced by Czech authorities.

Where do I get the visa?

Arrival registration is required and is completed through the official entry‑registration portal linked on this page. For consular assistance you may contact the South African embassy or consulate in Czechia.
