German citizens do not need a visa for a short tourist visit to Thailand. Arrival registration is required: you must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online before you travel.
Visa-free stays are permitted for up to 60 days per entry for arrivals until 14 September 2026; from 15 September 2026 the permitted visa-free stay per entry is 30 days. If you plan to stay longer you need a visa obtained before travel.
You must enter on a passport or on a temporary passport. Your passport or temporary passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
A national identity card and a driving licence do not entitle their holder to cross the border. A children’s passport is accepted.
No vaccinations are mandatory for direct travel from Germany. A yellow fever vaccination is required only if you arrive from, or transited for more than 12 hours through, a yellow fever area.
Vaccinations that are recommended (not required) include hepatitis A; hepatitis B; Japanese encephalitis; rabies; and typhoid.
The permitted length of stay is set on entry by the immigration authorities. Until 15 September 2026 visa-free arrivals are allowed up to 60 days per entry; from 15 September 2026 the allowance is 30 days per entry. Visa-free entries by land and sea are limited to two entries per calendar year.
A single extension of a visafree tourist stay for up to 30 additional days is possible for tourism purposes.
Children under 18 who travel without both parents — that is, unaccompanied, with one parent only, or with another adult — must carry an official letter of parental consent. Carry this document with the child when travelling.
Travel insurance is recommended but it is not a condition of entry. Make sure your policy provides adequate cover for medical treatment abroad and for return to Germany where relevant.

If you arrive without a confirmed onward or return ticket you may be treated as visumspflichtig (subject to visa rules). Carrying proof of onward travel helps show you qualify for visa-free entry.
