Germany→Egypt
German nationals require a visa to enter Egypt, and the primary option is a visa issued on arrival at the airport. This visa is a physical visa. The visa on arrival does not require any pre‑departure arrangement, but you may also choose to apply in advance online via the official eVisa portal or at an Egyptian embassy or consulate in Germany.
Your passport is accepted and must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry. A national identity card and a temporary passport are also accepted; if you use an identity card you must carry two biometric passport photos because the visa on arrival is affixed to a separate sheet and a photo is attached for identification. A driving licence is not accepted for entry.
No vaccinations are mandatory for travellers arriving directly from Germany. Recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies and meningococcal disease; ensure routine immunisations are up to date. Yellow fever or polio vaccination certificates are required only in the specific circumstances named by Egyptian rules (e.g. travel from yellow‑fever areas or listed polio risk countries).
The permitted length of stay for this route is not stated here. If you need to change your stay or have questions about overstays or the purpose of stay, follow the procedures described by the Egyptian authorities; violations of the permitted stay or of the declared purpose of visit have led to fines, deportations and entry bans.
Children and minors travel on the same accepted documents as adults: passport, temporary passport or national identity card (with the photo requirement noted above). No additional parental‑consent or notarised documents are required for minors on this tourist route, though Egyptian law includes separate exit restrictions for dual Egyptian minors under 21.
Travel health and repatriation insurance is recommended for your trip and the German foreign office advises having adequate cover, but insurance is not a condition of entry for tourists on this route.
If you prefer not to use visa on arrival you may apply through the official Egyptian eVisa portal; the portal issues electronic visas before travel. Egyptian embassies and consulates in Germany can also issue visas prior to departure and the German‑based missions provide consular assistance. The embassy pages and the official portal are linked on this page for application and consular information.
A passport is accepted and must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry. A national identity card and a temporary passport are also accepted. A driving licence is not accepted for entry.
An eVisa can be applied for through the official Egyptian application portal, and embassies or consulates in Germany also issue visas before travel. However, visa on arrival at the airport remains available and needs no advance arrangement.
If you arrive via Sharm El Sheikh you can buy a visa on arrival valid for all of Egypt (listed cost in source material). Alternatively, some Sinai entry points offer a free Sinai stamp for limited travel within parts of the Sinai; rules differ by crossing point.
You are not required to show proof of funds on arrival; travellers on this route are not asked to produce bank statements or similar evidence of money.
No arrival registration or entry card is required for this route; you do not need to complete an arrival-registration form on entry.
Travel insurance is recommended and the German foreign office advises you to have sufficient travel health and repatriation cover, but it is not a condition of entry for tourists on this route.
If you transit from or have been in a yellow fever area (or certain listed countries) you must show a yellow fever vaccination certificate; without it quarantine may follow. Polio vaccination proof is required for arrivals from certain countries. These requirements apply only in the specific situations named by the Egyptian authorities.
German minors need no additional consent letters or notarised permissions for travel to Egypt; the accepted travel documents apply to children as well. Note: Egyptian law restricts exit of dual Egyptian minors under 21 in some cases; consult consular guidance if relevant.
If you apply on arrival you will receive a physical visa sticker or, during the current test phase, possibly a QR‑code visa issued at the airport. The official eVisa portal also issues an electronic visa when applied for in advance.
Fees for visa on arrival are handled at official bank counters before passport control; the standard on‑arrival fee is listed in the source material in USD and payment arrangements can differ by crossing. The official portal is the route to apply and pay in advance if you prefer that option.
If you arrive via Taba and plan to travel outside the limited Sinai area, additional documents and fees may be required at that land border, including a guaranteed tour-agency letter and a border fee. Rules at Taba differ from standard airport arrivals.
A damaged passport risks refusal of boarding or entry. Bring a passport with at least six months validity and avoid passports with manually altered validity or non‑standard data fields; passports must show sex as “M” or “F”.
If you need help while in Egypt the German Embassy in Cairo can provide consular assistance. The embassy and consulates in Germany are also the places that issue visas before travel and can advise on entry rules and special cases.
You must not use a driving licence as travel ID; only a passport, temporary passport or (with restrictions) a national identity card are accepted for entry on this route.
Our verification system recently confirmed these requirements on August 31, 2026. Entry rules may change without notice, so confirm them with an official source before traveling.
Your travel document must remain valid for at least 6 months after the end of your trip.
Insurance is not required upon entry. However, it's advisable to have a comprehensive policy covering medical expenses and repatriation to your home country.
